Dinan and the Rance

An astounding journey back in time to the ancient town of Dinan, in the peace and quiet, through diverse landscapes.

Departure from Saint-Malo and Dinard, passing by the Tour Solidor and the Bizeux Rock (a statue of the Virgin Mary). Next, a crossing of the lock of the Barrage de la Rance, an EDF tidal power station that uses the resources of the strong tides rushing into the estuary to produce electricity.
You will follow the Rance – very wide at the beginning, then gradually shrinking over the course of your progress. Nature and history compete in charm: here, a fishing village such as Saint Suliac, listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, there, an old castle or “malouinière” of a Saint-Malo ship-owner from the 18th century; there, again, the river becomes a lake, then a canal bordered by sheer cliffs… You will pass under the St Hubert bridge and cross the Ecluse du Châtelier.

Then Dinan will appear, with its picturesque little streets, its half-timbered houses, its doors and artisan shops. At the old port, cross the little stone bridge and visit the Maison de la Rance on the opposite bank for some more information.

In the opposite direction, leaving from Dinan, you will head down the Rance and discover Dinard and the Corsair City of Saint Malo.

You can make the return trip by boat, or go there by boat and return by a regular coach service, or by one of our chartered coaches, depending on the dates.

Please note, the schedule may be modified according to the demands of the Barrage de la Rance and the Ecluse du Châtelier. Reservation is thus recommended so that you will have confirmation of the dates and times.
